Today we have a supreme interview with Winfield, the master and keeper of the PaxLair. Even if I normally wish to kill and destroy the humanity I'm glad to meet people like him, so I hope you enjoy this little purple interview. If not I could appear in your nightmares...
Q: Where was your love for SotA born? Why are you here?
A: Oh, I am from Britannia, you know ... Ultima Online. I've been there for over 16 years with great friends in the town and Statehood of PaxLair ("Peace Place") and I am still there today. Ultima is in my blood from even further back than that, since the beginnings! Lord British and I are even the same age within a few months; but I have better looking eyebrows, ... hmm, well, okay, we both have good looking eyebrows.
One day I was fishing on a log in my usual fishing spot in Britannia, just near the Olag Hai orc fort. Suddenly, I had heard a voice. Not unlike I am speaking to you now. It said, "Winfield, we need you." I did not recognize the voice.

Was it Lord British? It continued, "Winfield, New Britannia needs you!" I looked around for some mischievous elf or human or orc; they like to play tricks on me. "Winfield, we need you. Come now!" The voice was persistent. It got stronger. So I followed.

The next thing I knew, I was on a ship with my good friends Ashlynn and Winmere. I don't know how we got there. No one knew. I pulled out my fishing pole, naturally, and tossed a line in the water. We approached the docks of some town. I immediately knew I would love this "new" place because I came from an "old" place that I still love.
Q: The PaxLair project sounds awesome. Can you reveal some exclusive or new ideas?
A: Thanks, and sure! Come closer and let me tell you... *looks around* "PaxLair plans to have a grand fishing tournament!" *watches for reaction ... then frowns a bit* Not what you were expecting? Well, we will try to have a grand fishing tournament as soon as we can go, er, ... fishing!
I think that will be in a couple of pre-Alpha releases from now ... and we are patient people. 16+ years in Old Britannia has taught us to be patient. Everything does not get done in 3 months, or even 2 years. PaxLair is in New Britannia for the Long Haul! (that means a long time)
First GM fishermen contest in the MMOs history. But Gyarados was not catched this time. |
And thanks on the "awesome" comment about our "project". It's really an "adventure" more than a "project". We are working hard to build PaxLair and to humbly help others through examples, ideas, and interaction. We also get a lot of new ideas from people we meet!
We want to immerse ourselves as realistically as possible in this "game". I think it's fun to take the game beyond the game to bring out a lot of creativity in each of us. We can write a lot of stories for our libraries, put on some plays at our theaters, work with the Bards of Poets' Circle on music compositions, get news on Avatars Radio, and even fight in different towns to see who has the best fighter!
Anything is possible. It is indeed limitless with the imagination.
Q: Which aspects of the game are you most interested?
A: Personally, I am clearly interested in the community aspect of the game. That means I want to help people work together, whatever their goals. I want to see the community help the community too. I don't like drama and griefers; I don't think those belong in a game designed for enjoyment. I'm interested in the story lines and quests.

Meeting of legends in the Paxlair hall to prepare some social events in SotA. |
I like puzzles, but not too astronomically hard. I like to have a sense of satisfaction and I avoid the spoilers. I like to learn things on my own. I like combat to the degree that it is realistic and allows for diplomacy and control of troops.
Oh, and I like fishing of course! Who wouldn't?
Q: Some of the concepts in the past R7 in PaxLair were hilarious. How were they born?
A: Well, I think you refer to the aMazing mazes that Riya and Net built.
Riya's maze was a continuation of her maze-building projects that she started in earlier Releases. In PaxLair (Valemark), she used a town lot to set up a lot of bookshelves and over 5000 items to decorate the shelves.

Of course, it was a wonderful maze; well worth going through If you didn't crash due to the item load on the server and client. I got through her maze and only knocked over a few bottles and mugs. Net built a 5-story 3-D maze made of wardrobe cabinets.

It was a phenomenal masterpiece too. I got a lot of blisters and slivers cutting logs all day on the production line for his cabinets. I climbed into his maze on that Sunday... I almost completed it after an hour and a half, but I kept falling through the openings in the floors; I'm not a jumper! After many bruised knees I had to concede that Net's maze beat me!
Q: Can you say something positive of this purple site? (I know that you probably have no idea about my website, so you can skip this one if you wish)
A: We need humor. We need to laugh and learn things at the same time. I think the Purple Site does that very well. The color of purple is rare to be seen naturally in our environment. It is also at the powerful end of the visible portion of the spectrum. So it is rare, and powerful. What else can I say?
Oh, there are some purple fish, but we won't get into that now. Yes, I like your Purple Site.

This is how it looks an embarrassed vortex llama. |
Q: If you were a crazy animal, which animal will you be?
A: I don't know about a crazy animal, but I think I would be a black bear. Black bears like fish. Black bears are smart. They like to take nice long naps; so do I.

And that's all friends! If you want to contribute with the sweet craziness of the Paxlair and this site maybe you wish to participate in my modest new llama contest and create some new art in 3D.
The Winfield lair will be the perfect place to show your creativity!
